Who we are

TANFWA is a national association of academic and non-fiction writers based at Mwenge, Nzasa Street, P.O. Box 10070, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. We are responsible for the personal information described in this notice. You can reach us at info@tanfwa.or.tz or +255 733 009 996.

What we collect

• Membership applications. The details you enter in the application form, such as your name, contact details, profession and writing background.
• Messages. When you use the contact form, your email app opens with your name, email address, optional phone number and message filled in. We receive these only if you send the email.
• Newsletter sign-up. Your email address.
• Payments. When you pay fees by T-PESA, we receive the payment record, which includes your name, phone number and the amount paid.

We ask only for what we need. Please do not send sensitive information we have not asked for.

How we use it

• To review your membership application and keep our register of members.
• To confirm payments and issue membership.
• To reply to your messages and enquiries.
• To send the newsletter and news about programmes and events, if you asked for it.

We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who we share it with

Only TANFWA secretariat staff and officers who need it can see your information. We use Google to run the membership form and our email, so your information is stored on Google’s systems on our behalf. We share information with others only when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep member records while you are a member and for a limited time afterwards, as needed for our records and legal obligations. Applications that do not lead to membership, messages and enquiries are deleted when we no longer need them. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time and we will remove your address.

Your rights

Under Tanzania’s Personal Data Protection Act, 2022, you can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, have it deleted, or object to how we use it. Email info@tanfwa.or.tz and we will respond as soon as we can. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission.

Cookies

This website does not set its own cookies and does not use analytics or advertising trackers. The membership form (Google Forms) and the office map (Google Maps) are provided by Google and may set cookies when they load. Google’s use of that information is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.

Keeping it safe

This website is served over a secure (HTTPS) connection. Access to member records is limited to the people who need it to do their work for TANFWA.
